Who is this qualification for?
The Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care is an occupational qualification for learners who work within Adult Care settings. The qualification is for workers who have key responsibilities for delivery of care and support and /or a level of supervision.
This qualification may also suit personal assistants for individuals or the families of those individuals who employ them directly under management supervision.
This qualification is endorsed by Skills for Care and has been approved as meeting the Skills for Care qualification specification for England.
Delivery
The qualification contains units that are competence-based and several knowledge-based units. The units aim to support a wide range of specialisms, including;
- Domiciliary Care
- Healthcare support
- Learning disability services
- End of life Care
- Dementia Care
- Residential Care
- You will build up a portfolio of evidence. This will be in the form of written statements or ‘Reflective Accounts’ along with supporting work products you have produced.
- You may supply witness testimonies or statements from third parties with whom you work. This may include a team leader or line manager or other suitably qualified individuals.
- You will work through each unit step by step with your assessor to enable you to achieve all of the units that make up the full award.
An assessor will visit you in the workplace to carry out observations of you at work. These will be planned in advance in order to cause the minimum disruption to your work routine and to try to capture as much information as possible in one visit.
Mandatory Course Units
You will need to complete mandatory units then choose from a wide range of optional units that cover both knowledge as well as your actual working practice.

- 202 Responsibilities of a care worker
- 301 Promote personal development in care settings
- 302 Promote health, safety and wellbeing in care settings
- 303 Promote communication in care settings
- 304 Promote effective handling of information in care settings
- 305 Duty of care in care settings
- 306 Promote equality and inclusion in care settings
- 307 Promote person-centred approaches in care settings
On successful completion of this award, you may progress onto the Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) and other short courses in the social care sector (Subject to support by management or in a management role)
Entry Requirements
- The level 3 Diploma is not approved for those who are under the age of 16.
- You must be in employment in the social care setting. This can be full, part-time or in a voluntary capacity.
